The Competition (1980) is a romance flick that centers around a highly competitive piano competition which promises immediate fame and fortune to the winner. Paul Dietrich (Richard Dreyfuss) is a thirty-year-old pianist who has never won a music competition after what seems like a lifetime of chasing the dream. Since his parent are ill and he's getting up there in age, he decides to try one last competition in San Francisco before calling it quits and taking a teaching gig at the local high school. Newbie musician Heidi (Amy Irving) just might be a better pianist than him. Worse, she's only twenty-three years old and is widely considered the next big thing in the classical music world. As the two compete, their feelings for each other get stirred up, until they're both in the top six competitors. But with Paul desperate to win and Heidi's teacher (Lee Remick) forbidding her from fraternizing with the competition, their romance seems doomed. When Heidi's foreign teacher defects to the USA, Heidi becomes the sympathetic favorite, which makes Paul all sorts of jealous. Eventually, he'll accept that she's better than him and focus on making him her better half. Cue the romantic piano music. Nothing competes with Ty Henderson's sexy slim bod when he tickles the ivories. Ty plays the humpable Michael Humphries, a quirky competitor who always practices in the buff. That seems like a sexy way to get good at playing piano. Ty it, you might like it! At one point, we get a great look at him practicing his craft from behind, which gives us a great look at his behind! We'd sure like to duet, or do it, with him! Mr. Man doesn't play the piano, but he played his favorite organ watching that scene! You'll beat your meat while the pianist compete in The Competition!
