Thanks to the pen and direction of Sandra Goldbacher, film fans can experience 1830s London by watching The Governess (1998). Not to be confused with the psychological thriller The Nanny (1965), this costume drama follows Rosina da Silva (Minnie Driver), the eldest daughter of a wealthy Jewish family. But after her merchant father is violently murdered, she changes her name to Mary Blackchurch and says she’s a Protestant. In order to gain financial independence, she lands a job as a governess for the dysfunctional Cavendish family. And like Fran Fine (Fran Drescher) in the CBS sitcom The Nanny (1993-1999), she hooks up with her employer! In this case, it’s Charles Cavendish (Tom Wilkinson) opposed to the TV show’s Max Sheffield (Charles Shaughnessy). Alas, Minnie must fend off the sexual advances of his son, Henry (Jonathan Rhys Meyers), to the max. As such, we get to see Jonathan’s John Thomas! Not only does the Irish eyeful flash his shaft, abs and ass in the bedroom, the nude dude also goes full frontal while throwing a tantrum on the beach. When he crawls to shore, there’s a shot of his schlong. Surf’s up! No wonder cinematographer Ashley Rowe was given an Evening Standard British Film Award. Of course, Mr. Man was won over by Mr. Wilkinson’s wanker. In one scene, the camera hovers above the sleeping stud as Ms. Driver unfastens his Victorian pajamas to reveal his hairy chest, pubes, balls and glorious gland. In other words, keep calm and govern your dirty thoughts!
