Review

It seems that everyone in town needs a little lovin’ in The Love Letter (1999). Horny Helen (Kate Capshaw) runs several miles a day to burn off her pent-up sexual energy, despite shacking up with juvenile Johnny (Tom Everett Scott). When Helen finds an anonymous romantic letter between her couch cushions, she’s off to the races in love, followed by everyone else in town, including Johnny, her dear mother (Blythe Danner), and her neighbor (played by the sarcastically straight Ellen DeGeneres). Everyone thinks that they are the rightful recipient of the meaningful missive. A series of hilarious and hot and heavy romantic antics ensues before the gender-bending conclusion straightens everything out. Tom teases us with the tiniest glimpse of his bedroom bottom. More impressively, he does a dorky dance, wearing only a pair of boxer shorts that can hardly contain his perky package. Maybe the film should be renamed The Love Package?
