Russia 1961 was a time of political silence from behind the iron curtain.  Those who spoke up were disappeared by the shadowy forces behind an unstoppable government with absolute power, those who fled were hunted as traitors.  This story is about one of the most brilliant ballet dancers of the 20th century, Rudolf Nureyev (Oleg Ivenko), who as a member of the infamous Kirov Ballet company, was the best in the world.  Rudolf yearns for the freedom he witnesses on a tour of Paris with the ballet company and decides that his art, his liberty, his sexuality, and his cultural importance to the beauty of ballet will not be constrained by the narrow viewed nationalism of the Soviet Union of the time.  He makes a bold move to shake off his KGB handlers and seek asylum with the French!  Viva Libertie, Rudolf!  This sprawling biopic tells the tale of an artist and master of his craft spreading his wings against oppression, beautifully directed by Ralph Fiennes and starring new-comer to the screen Oleg Ivenko, who is in fact, a trained dancer.  He doesn't show us any nudity as the titular character but his lovers Louis Hofmann and Sergei Polunin strip off their tights to show you their dancer bodies in this one!
