Artemisia (1997)

Artemisa (1997) is about a brilliant young painter who lived in the 17th century, Artemisia Gentileschi (Valentina Cervi). The movie tells her story from youth when she was guided by her father, the painter Orazio Gentileschi (Michel Serrault). Her professional curiosity about the male anatomy, forbidden for her eyes, led her to the knowledge of sexual pleasure. Her sexual desires may have led her to some trouble as she was forced to testify in court in 1612 about her sexual relationship with her teacher.
