In the artsy drama Undertow (2009), Christian Mercado co-stars as Miguel, a small town fisherman who is expecting his first child with his loving wife Mariela (Tatiana Astengo). Little does everyone know, Miguel is in love with Santiago (Manolo Cardona), a sexy and sensitive painter. While the attractive artist is fine with keeping their gay love affair a secret, Miguel wants more. Unfortunately for the cheating hubby, Santiago drowns while swimming, and his ghost visits Miguel, informing him that his spirit will never be at peace until he comes clean about his homosexuality. The neighborhood soon begins to suspect that Miguel has been playing with the other team when nude paintings of him are discovered in his deceased fling’s home. It’s only a matter of time before everyone knows the truth, including Mariela.
