The '70s were a time of bold artistic advances in New York City and the director Amos Poe was a pioneer behind the lens. He ushered in an experimental aesthetic that not only changed the course of filmmaking in New York City, but spread throughout the rest of the United States and even the world! Unmade Beds is one of his most significant pieces, and it happens to feature a couple of pieces as well! This artistic black and white movie is about a man named Rico (played by Duncan Hannah) whose obsession with the experimental and daring flicks from Europe in the previous decade (particularly ones from superstar director Jean-Luc Godard) inspires him to live his life as if he's actually in a movie. He lives the life of a dangerous neo-noir character, except that instead of wielding a gun, he shoots with his camera. As with many experimental NYC flicks from the '70s Unmade Beds is as much about the aesthetics and visual artistic discourse as it is about any sort of narrative. And we would like to have a visual artistic discourse about Eric Mitchell's penis! He takes a bath while reading a newspaper and smoking, and casually reveals some smoking hot frontal in the process. Then you have the star of the movie, Duncan Hannah. He's an artsy dreamboat who goes shirtless in multiple scenes, including while getting white stuff smeared on his chest by a woman! From the penis to the white stuff, we give Unmade Beds a 10/10!
