Hammer (1972)

In the heart of the blaxploitation movement after the successes of Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song (1971) and Shaft (1971), came Bruce Clark's Hammer (1972), the title of which refers to B.J. Hammer (Fred Williamson) a boxer who rose up the ranks with help from the Mafia. When B.J. refuses to return the favor by throwing a fight, they decide to change his mind by kidnapping his girlfriend. Will B.J. save her? Will he destroy his career in the process? More importantly does B.J. show his hammer? To answer the latter, not quite. We do get the boxer beefcake frequently shirtless during his fight scenes. He also treats us to a peekaboo butt shot between a transparent shower curtain as he vigorously rubs his girlfriend's back. Finally, Williamson shows us a sneak at his packaged willy getting into bed in nothing but a tight pair of bulging blue briefs. Now that's what we call a prizefighter!
