Bel Ami (2012)

Bel Ami (2012) tells the tale of Georges Duroy (Robert Pattinson) a poor soldier who returns to Paris in the 1800’s and begins a corrupt climb to power.  Georges becomes a journalist.  Using his good looks, charm and powers of seduction begins manipulating some of the city’s most influential women. During the course of the film, Georges beds a prostitute, his wife, his mistress his boss’s wife and any other woman who will have him, all in his quest for power and influence.

 Sex and affairs are the gas that keeps the engine of this movie firing, but it’s unleaded gas.  The sex is tame with not a lot of skin on display. It is set in the 1800’s, so demure diddling seems appropriate. Robert Pattinson does come out of the twilight and into the boudoir.  Early in the film Georges has an encounter with a prostitute, and despite poor lighting, we see his bare bottom blasting away in the heat of passion. We also get a look at his well sculpted chest.
