Bitter Years (2019)

Bitter Years is a 2019 Italian biodrama that brings the story of gay activist Mario Mieli to life on the big screen. The outspoken advocate for gay rights took Italy by storm starting in 1972, when he protested for equal rights in front of Italy's Congress of Sexology. After the landmark protest this writer and theorist continued to push boundaries and carve out a space for himself and his queer brothers and sisters and they/thems. We love a Mario Mieli moment, and we love that in Bitter Years he's portrayed by the actor Nicola Di Benedetto.
