Review

Set in a small French village in 1959, Chocolat (2000) follows Vianne Rocher (Juliette Binoche), a mysterious woman that moves into the quiet, Catholic church-going community with her young daughter. At the beginning of Lent, Vianne opens up a chocolate shop across from the town’s church, tempting the sacrificing congregation with her chocolate delights. While everyone floods to indulge their senses in the milky sweetness of the shop, Comte de Reynaud (Alfred Molina), the town mayor, is not amused by Vianne’s entrepreneurship, and he sets his sights on running her out of town. But when the handsome Roux (Johnny Depp) comes to town, he helps Vianne out with the planning of a chocolate festival that’s set to begin on Easter Sunday. Let the battle begin! Though the film is filled with chocolaty goodness, there’s very little skin Arnaud Adam sweetens up the flick with a dark and fleeting look at his tight body as he puts his chocolate into some lucky chick’s peanut butter. Sweetness!
