Review

Espionage is at the center of the English thriller Enigma (2001), not to be confused with another spy flick called Enigma (1982). Of course, the real mystery surrounding this movie is how and why rock icon Mick Jagger and Saturday Night Live (1975-1980, 1985-present) creator Lorne Michaels teamed up to produce the pic. Based on the same-named novel by Robert Harris, this fictionalized account is based on true events that took place at Bletchley Park in Buckinghamshire. Back in 1943, a group of cryptoanalysts were tasked with a mission to crack the Nazi code in order to win World War II for Great Britain. If this plot sounds a tad familiar it’s because The Imitation Game (2014) also covered parts of the same story. While that one features Alan Turing (Benedict Cumberbatch), Joan Clarke (Keira Knightley), John Cairncross (Allen Leech), Peter Hilton (Matthew Goode) and Stewart Menzies (Mark Strong), this one boasts an equally (if not, more) impressive cast. Meet Tom Jericho (Dougray Scott), Hester Wallace (Kate Winslet), Cave (Matthew Macfadyen), Mr. Wigram (Jeremy Northam), and Admiral Trowbridge (Corin Redgrave). The movie also includes Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Tom Hollander, and Dougray’s nudity! During a morning after scene, the latter actor proves there’s nothing better than an undercover agent getting up from being under the covers. While chatting with his onscreen lady love Claire Romilly (Saffron Burrows), he sits up in bed to expose his naked chest. And when he stands up, great Scott shows off his hot buns. Talk about a cheeky Brit!
