Dear Mother (2020)

Jean-Louis (Laurent Lafitte) is in quite a pickle with his health and not in the traditional sense of the word, like he has a terminal disease or anything.  One day his heart just stops beating entirely.  He can still walk, talk, and move, but there is nothing thumping in his chest anymore.  Jean-Louis is going through his mid-life crisis like most middle aged men do, by being a bad husband to his wife and getting blowjobs in the park from strangers, but once his ticker stops ticking, his time is for sure running out.  So he turns to his best friend, a veterinarian (Vincent Macaigne) and his wife, Valérie (Karin Viard) to get to the bottom of this mystery.  They come to the notion that this could stem from his estranged relationship with his mother, so this impulsive middle aged man decides that he needs to confront his mom in the most egregious ways possible, especially after he has several twisted dreams about his birth and then making out with dear old mom shortly after!  Dear Mother isn't quite on board with healing the relationship in real life though, so he pulls out all the stops to try and get closer to his mom, which includes plenty of uncomfortable Oedipal-esque attempts to woe her into the bedroom with his best friend helping fuel a threeway with them.  Based on the 2013 play, The Origin of the World, buckle up for this French flick which makes you wonder if a Polaroid of your mom's vagina to save your life is actually worth the effort or if you'd rather just die.
