Review

The Kenneth Anger-directed short flick Fireworks (1947) follows a shirtless young man simply named Dreamer (Anger) as he dreams of a muscular sailor (Gordon Gray) carrying him in his arms. Dreamer ends up in a bar where his sailor buddy shows off his muscular body. The surrealist situation turns violent when a gang of sailors, led by an unnamed seaman (Bill Seltzer), busts into the bar, swinging chains and flashing mean looks. Before a rumble goes down, a fantastic show of phallic-like fireworks, a flaming Christmas tree, and a bunch of burning photographs take over the scene. Once that slow show is over, the Dreamer ends up back in his bed besides his muscular sailor (Gray). During a disturbing scene of barroom abuse, Kenneth Anger’s buff body is on display, which will put some fireworks in your pants!
