Hot off the success of the syndicated series Hercules, Hollywood decided it was time to give leading man Kevin Sorbo his very own film franchise with Kull the Conqueror (1997). Based on the character first developed by Conan the Barbarian creator Robert E. Howard, the film was initially intended to be the third Conan film, but when Arnold Schwarzenegger declined the chance to return to the role that made him famous, the script was reworked for Sorbo. Kull is a barbarian from the fabled kingdom of Atlantis who is tasked with accompanying his friend General Taligaro (Thomas Ian Griffith) to the kingdom of Valusia, where a mad king has been slaughtering all of his heirs. Taligaro intends to use this as a power grab that will allow him to rule Valusia, but when Kull lands the killing blow against the mad king, he is named the new king. Taligaro then uses his resources to resurrect an ancient sorceress queen known as Akivasha (Tia Carrere), who can use her ancient magic to defeat Kull and his new army, thereby installing Taligaro as king of Valusia. Little does he realize that Akivasha has an agenda of her own and intends to usurp Taligaro and reinstate her own rule as queen of Valusia. Look, you're not here for any barbarian style intrigue, you're here because you want to know if Kevin Sorbo follows in Arnold's footsteps and goes nude in this flick. Sadly he does spend nearly the entire film's running time shirtless and oiled up, showing off his many muscles!
