Laurel Canyon (2002) is a twisted road in Los Angeles where hippies preaching free love still raise their freak flags. One such old lady is Frances McDormand, who plays a record producer trying to get her next-big-thing English combo to lay down some heavy riffing in her studio/house. Christian Bale, as her straight-laced son, and Kate Beckinsale, as his even more conservative fiancée, arrive home for a culture clash. While Christian Bales on his mom's hedonistic lifestyle, Kate is seduced by it and ends up stripping, skinny dipping, and even getting down with Frances. Bale, interning at a psych ward, has the nymphomaniac Gina Doctor naked in front of him but plays it cool. But he gets hot and bothered by fellow doctor Natascha McElhone. Unfortunately, Bale keeps on his scrubs. But Alessandro Nivola doesn’t -- he bares all in a skinny-dipping scene, but the camera just barely focuses on his lovely bits. Still, there’s just enough for this movie to deserve a Laurel in your pants.
