If you grew up watching classic flicks from the 70s, you can practically hear the piano score from this flick buzzing in the back of your head.  The title, Love Story, pretty much gives away most of the basis of this movie, but that's a pretty simple explanation for this somewhat lower budget popcorn movie that went on the be nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards, this one pretty much set the tone for love stories going forward.  We follow a couple of college kids, Oliver Barrett IV (Ryan O'Neal) and Jenny Cavilleri (Ali MacGraw), from the moment they meet, having an argument at the library.  There is an immediate attraction between the pair, but their backgrounds couldn't be any more different.  Oliver comes from an insane amount of money, the kind of money that his great grand dad donated "Barrett Hall" to Harvard several decades earlier, pretty much sealing him as a legacy at the most prestigious school on the east coast.  Jenny, on the other hand, comes from a working class family in Rhode Island and is going to Radcliffe on a music scholarship.  So this is the tale as old as time where a rich boy falls for a poor girl and despite all the differences of their family life, they make a go of it.  The only problem is one of them is dying from a terminal illness and the other is Ryan O'Neal, so there isn't much hope for them to grow old together!  Luckily though, we get to see some mild skin from primetime O'Neal, so it's not just a popcorn flick, it's more like a throwback fap flick to the hayday of a 70s sex symbol.
