Red Cow (2018)

In this Israeli coming of age drama, we definitely get a peek behind the curtain of an Israel of the early 90s, in the days before the assassination of Yitzhak Rabin in 1995.  We follow Benni (Avigail Kovari), who is a redhead girl who is 16 going on 17 and was orphaned by her mother at a young age and has been basically raised by her right-wing, borderline extremist father on a farm in an illegal settlement on the West Bank.  When a slightly more rare red heifer is born on the farm, Benni's dear old dad takes it as an omen that the Third Temple of Jerusalem is going to be popping up any day now and (depending on the historical take on the Torah), could spell a new age for Judaism in the holy land.  Well, needless to say, Benni at 16 years old is more interested in music, having a good time with friends, and her budding sexuality which is definitely taking the front seat in most of her actions on the farm.  As she continues a steamy lesbian relationship with her friend Yael (Moran Rosenblatt), she also begins to become slightly more defiant of her father Yehoshua (Gal Toren), who is only pushing her towards fundamentalism and away from her love, Yael.  While there are a few solid lesbian scenes in this one, there is only one nude scene for the boys and that comes with a hot spring dip from Gal Toren, who shows off his steamy Hebrew heiney while getting out of the spring and getting back into his clothes.  Also, there is an adorable cow for your viewing pleasure!  Who doesn't love those oversized farm puppies???
