Before Irish actor Andrew Scott caught the attention of American audiences in the critical hits 1917 (2019) and All of Us Strangers (2023), the lovely leading man of TV’s Fleabag (2019) and Ripley (2024) starred in The Bachelor Weekend (2013). Also known as The Stag, this comedy pokes fun at toxic masculinity. Before fussy Fionnan (Hugh O’Conor) weds Ruth (Amy Huberman), he reluctantly agrees to go on a weekend camping trip with his best buds — Davin (Scott), Little Kevin (Michael Legge) and Simon (Brian Gleeson) — before he gets hitched. It’s all fun and games and male bonding until his fiancée’s badass brother “The Machine” (Peter McDonald) unexpectedly shows up to the shindig, simultaneously killing the fun and challenging everyone’s concepts of masculinity. Of course, when you get a bunch of guys in the woods their clothes are bound to come off. In other words, sit back and relax as you glance at the collective abs, buns and thongs on Mr. Scott, Mr. O’Conor, Mr. Gleeson, Mr. Legge, and the aptly-named Enormous Kevin (Andrew Bennett). Granted, the hunks don’t expose their junk, but they flash enough flesh to merit two thumbs (and another part of the anatomy) up. In fact, the flick was nominated for Best Irish Film at the Irish Film & Television Awards. Yes, the well-meaning campers show off their backsides in several scenes as they struggle to find their missing clothes. Now this is a party Mr. Man would love to attend. Why, he’s already pitching his tent!
