What do Hardie Albright, John Heard, King Baggot, Lars Hanson, and Lou Castel have in common? They’ve all played Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale in big and small screen adaptations of the Nathaniel Hawthorne classic “The Scarlet Letter” (1850). Of course, we can’t forget Gary Oldman who took on the role in the 1995 flick. Set in the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1667, Hester Prynne (Demi Moore) learns that her husband has died fighting Indians. As such, she and a local pastor (Oldman) fall in love and in lust with each other. But after they have sex and she gives birth to their baby, Hester is shamed into wearing a scarlet A (for adultery) on her clothing. If that’s not bad enough, her long-lost husband (Robert Duvall) shows up disguised as a different person. For a long time, the dim Mr. Dimmesdale is too cowardly to call Hester his own. But he eventually mans up and confesses his feelings for her. Will he and she and their child get to leave and start anew together? Or will Hester’s evil hubby poison Arthur first? Most importantly, will we get to see some dudity? Fortunately, the answer to the latter question is YES! During a skinny-dipping scene, Mr. Oldman flashes his back, abs, sack, and shaft just 15 minutes into the flick! Later, he reveals his rump during a passionate hump at the 52-minute mark. Not to be outdone, Mr. Duvall bares his hairy chest and nude booty. This proves the scarlet letters actually are T&A!
