Review

The weird connections a family keeps to the ex-lovers and/or boyfriends/girlfriends of a lost loved one, is definitely a delicate relationship to keep in the fold of a family.  Some family members are happy to see that person move on from the death of their loved one and others are upset that they could ever move on from their dearly departed so soon.  This is exactly the relationship dynamic in The Weekend (1999) for the Kerr family.  Marian (Deborah Kara Unger) and John (Jared Harris) welcome back an old friend, Lyle (David Conrad), for a long weekend in their palatial estate in upstate New York, but it's a bittersweet reunion for them and their family members, because Lyle is the former lover of their brother Tony (D.B. Sweeney), who died a year early from complications from AIDS.  So as they assume it is going to be a family friendly weekend of fond remembrance of the lost loved one they all miss so dearly, it ends up leading to tensions because Lyle didn't come alone, he brought along his new boy toy, artist Robert (James Duval).  Some family members are supportive, some are furious that he would bring him along.  The neighbors are also having a little dust-up of their own next door when the mother-daughter at odds with each other let their drama spill into the Kerr household on top of everything else!  While the thematics are adult, the nudity falls squarely on the broad shoulders of D.B. Sweeney in this drama, but we do get to see Gary Dourdan and Jared Harris sans shirt as well!
