Bone Tomahawk (2015)

Westerns don’t come out like they used to. There was a time when there were always a multitude of westerns in theaters, and one or two western shows on TV each night of the week. The lucky inhabitants of yesteryear had plenty of opportunities to be driven nuts by cowboy butts. And though the output has dropped off, it seems like the quality has risen for the one or two westerns that come out each year. You can bet a western that premiered post-2000 is likely to be a winner. Bone Tomahawk (2015) is no exception, but it’s not just a western. Seamlessly blending elements of western and horror, Bone Tomahawk follows the tale of four men who venture out into uncharted territory in attempt to rescue a group of captives from a bizarre race of cannibalistic cave dwellers, or Troglodytes. A film so thrilling that you can’t look away, it’s Deputy Nick (Evan Jonigkeit) that will really have your eyes glued to the screen. This X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) star is stripped naked by the savages, and we have front row tickets. Staying true to their name, the savages then savagely murder him, but the view was nice while it lasted.
