Nightwatch (1994)

Before Scottish hottie Ewan McGregor burned up the big screen in the American thriller Nightwatch (1998), European audiences were watching the Danish chiller diller Nightwatch (1994). Ole Bornedal directed both versions based on similar scripts (one written by him, the other by Steven Soderbergh). Also known as Nattevagten, the original flick begins when law student Martin Bork (Nikolaj Coster Waldau) takes a night job at the Forensic Medicine Institute to earn extra cash. Meanwhile, a number of women are being killed in Copenhagen. One thing leads to another and before you can say “framed for murder,” Martin winds up as the main suspect! As he looks for the actual perpetrator, we encounter Kalinka Martens (Sofie Gråbøl), Jens Arnkiel (Kim Bodnia), Peter Wörmer (Ulf Pilgaard) and the old nightwatch (Gyrd Løfquist). The foreign film also includes Lotte Andersen, Rikke Louise Andersson, Niels Anders Thorn, Stig Hoffmeyer and Nikolaj’s nudity! During a passionate sex scene, the luscious leading man loses his inhibitions as well as his clothing! As such, we get to glance at his abs, sack and shaft. Nothing scary about that! As you can guess, this pic was a hit with film critics. It also made a big impact at the box office overseas, not to mention skinternational spank banks! In addition to the US reboot, the movie spawned the 2023 sequel Nattevagten – Dæmoner går i arv , otherwise known as Nightwatch – Demons Are Forever. Needless to say, Mr. Man is waiting with masturbated breath for the next bone-tingling installment!
