The Boyfriend School (1990)

1980’s comedy fixture Steve Guttenberg stars as yet another cartoonist (like his Three Men character), but this one is a cancer survivor named Gus who’s in love with Jami Gertz, only she’s being charmed by a young Kyle MacLachlan. Cue Gus’ romance novelist sister (played by Shelley Long) to make him over into a leather-clad, motorcycle-riding macho man from New Zealand named Lobo Marunga, complete with a luxurious mullet-to-end-all-mullets. He manages to sweep Jami Gertz’s Emily off her feet but in a moment of post-coital guilt, a shirtless Lobo reveals he’s really Gus and she throws him out. But it’s an 80’s romantic comedy so Gus and Emily eventually get their happy ending. While it may not be his best work, seeing Steve’s pecs in their prime is always a good time!
