Some families are more dysfunctional than others. This can be seen in the horror flick The Stepfather (1987), not to be confused with the dramedy Stepmom (1998) starring Ed Harris. Under the direction of Joseph Ruben, the chiller diller features a screenplay by acclaimed caper novelist Donald E. Westlake. The tense tale follows a man (Terry O’Quinn) who goes by the names of Jerry Blake, Henry Morrison and Bill Hodgkins. Needless to say, he pretends to be something he is not: sane. Nevertheless, single mom Susan Maine (Shelley Hack) falls for his charms and marries him. Obviously, she’s not aware of his bad habits — like hogging the covers, not putting the cap back on the toothpaste, and being a total psycho who butchered his previous family! The only person who suspects something is untoward is Susan’s teenaged daughter Stephanie (Jill Schoelen). As such, she’s got to go. Will this stepdaughter be able to expose her stepfather before it’s too late? Or will he expose himself first? Even though he doesn’t willingly divulge his past crimes, he does reveal his bare body. In one scene, Mr. O’Quinn shows off his O’Back and O’Buns when he gets ready to take a shower. If that’s not hot enough, Terry steams up the screen as he flashes his balls and peen. Talk about adding thrills to this thriller! No wonder The Stepfather became a cult favorite with both film and flesh fans. In other words, the leading man is playing a killer with killer looks!
