A Manhattan couple re-examines their lives after landing in a free love commune in the American comedy Wanderlust (2011), not to be confused with the British drama Wanderlust (2018). George (Paul Rudd) and his wife Linda (Jennifer Aniston) are trying to achieve the New York dream until their bubble bursts when George loses his job. Unable to afford their exorbitant rent, the two head south to stay with family. But an unplanned detour lands them in “Elysium,” an offbeat alternative community. As the uptight couple starts to experience the benefits of a laidback lifestyle, they must decide if they want to return to their stressful former lives. Thanks to co-writer and director David Wain, we meet several comical characters including the commune’s acid-damaged founder Carvin Wiggins (Alan Alda), Rick Gergenblatt (co-writer Ken Marino), Rodney Wilson (Jordan Peele), Karen (Kathryn Hahn), and the group’s magnetic leader Seth (Justin Theroux). The cool thing about hippies is that they’re not afraid to go au natural, and Joe Lo Truglio goes the extra mile to get into character. As Wayne Davidson, he treats us to multiple full frontals while playing the commune’s nappy nudist. The scenes are more humorous than hot. Yet Wanderlust isn’t a total wander-bust since we get to see the bare back and ass on an uncredited Ray Liotta as himself. Who else would we want him to be? That question is rhetorical so there’s no need to raise your hand. But raising another part of your anatomy is totally up to you!
