Savage (2009)

The gritty crime thriller Savage (2009) takes the viewer through the underbelly of Ireland, following Paul Graynor (Darren Healy), a press photographer that descends into a disturbing cycle of violence, paranoia and revenge. Paul makes his money photographing crime scenes, but after he becomes a victim of a humiliating and violent street attack at the hands of two evil dudes, it's Paul that decides to start committing some crimes of his own. Obsessed with revenge against the hoodlums who both sliced his face and sliced off his balls (literally and figuratively), Paul becomes a violent psychopath convinced he needs to stab the people who hurt him to get his mind right. As Paul struggles to overcome the attack, he ultimately meets an untimely ending that leaves a bloody trail of revenge. Not for the faint of heart, this revenge tale has some scenes that are very disturbing to watch. This one got a bit of buzz around award season though, in large part because Darren Healy is a real-life bad boy who had an assault conviction under his belt before he blew up as an actor thanks to his work in this one. That authenticity had all sorts of critics glued to the screen to see a violent dude playing a dude learning to become violent. It's an absolute crime that, even though he's playing a dude who had to watch his scrotum get sliced off, Mr. Healy doesn't give us anything to get touchy-feely to, but at least Emmett Scanlan attempts to heat up the flick with his impressive rod bouncing around in the locker room. Paul might be envious of his balls, but we couldn't believe how big Emmett's love rod was! Savage? Mr. Man would love to ravage Emmett!
